Acne & Pimple – What’s the difference?
Acne, also known as Acne Vulgaris, is a hair follicle disease that affects the skin’s hair follicles and oil glands of the face, chest, and back especially teenagers during puberty. Pimples are one of the symptoms of Acne.

What Is A Pimple?
A pimple is kind of small pustule or spots. Pimples formed when the excess sebum and dead skin cells clogged in the pores of the skin. They result in swollen red lesions filled with pus.

How Do Pimples Occur?
Pimples are known as papules, blackheads or zits, and they are part of Acne. They may happen at any age, but most likely, they occur during puberty.
There is no single reason because many factors play a role in the cause of pimples.
Hormones: Hormonal changes during puberty is one of the main causes of pimples in teenagers. During puberty, sebaceous glands under hair follicles become overactive and become enlarged. So pimples occur during the teenage years mostly during menstruation, for women.
Extra sebum(oil): Androgen hormones stimulate the sebaceous gland, which results in the production of extra sebum(oil). Sebum makes its way towards the skin’s surface along with skin bacteria and dead skin cells resulting in pimples.
Follicle fallout: The dead skin cells in the follicle shed faster than normal in people with hyperactive sebaceous glands and make a way out of the skin’s surface along with the excess sebum and get clogged, resulting in pimples.
Inflammation: When your skin gets in contact with harmful bacteria, an army of white blood cells attacks that bacteria. This process is what makes your pimples red, swollen and painful.

Types of Pimples
There were different types of pimples with varying signs and symptoms:
Blackheads: Blackheads also called as comedo. They formed as a result of clogged hair follicles under your skin. They are black or dark brown spots clearly visible on the surface of the skin due to the oxidation of the skin’s pigment melanin.
Whiteheads: Whiteheads are also called as comedo. They are small, flesh-coloured papules formed as a result of dead skin cells, skin oil and bacteria get trapped at the neck of your skin pores.
